About
Emmanuel Idoko
I'm Emmanuel Idoko, a software engineer and AI researcher. I build clinical AI systems and agentic pipelines that survive contact with production — and I publish the research behind them at venues like MICCAI and ICPR.
My first in-person hackathon set the tone. At HackLab Nigeria 2022, my team built PheraCam — a real-time facial-recognition camera running on the edge — in three days, and placed 1st runner-up among 800+ participants. Building under pressure, for real judges and a real deadline, is what got me hooked.
Since then I've built across the stack. At HabariPay, the fintech subsidiary of Guaranty Trust, I work on payment infrastructure and AI-powered product features. At Wema Bank, I shipped an AI chatbot that let 2,000+ staff query internal documentation. At NitHub, the University of Lagos innovation hub, I design AI/ML-integrated IoT systems alongside student innovators.
In parallel, I do research in medical imaging. With collaborators through ML Collective, I've worked on structure-aware denoising for pediatric chest X-rays (SharpXR, published at the MIRASOL Workshop at MICCAI 2025) and vessel-aware masked autoencoders for OCT angiography (VAMAE, accepted at ICPR 2026), and I'm first author on a study of retrieval-induced hallucination in medical vision-language models, submitted to the Africa in AI Workshop at NeurIPS 2026. In July 2026, I attended the African Computer Vision Summer School — selected 1 of 31 from 312 applicants, on a full grant — where I presented SharpXR at the poster session and competed in the research hackathon.
AidCare is where the two threads meet. I founded it to bring clinical decision support to healthcare settings where specialist knowledge is scarce: a dual-mode RAG system with semantic search over 500+ clinical protocols and multimodal ingestion for scanned documents and voice notes, engineered for real-world infrastructure.
I also teach and host — training 250+ students as Project Lead of the Unilag Data Community, moderating panels with engineers from Bloomberg and Goldman Sachs, and walking early-stage researchers through papers like “Attention Is All You Need.” I'm completing my B.Sc. in Computer Science at the University of Lagos, and I'm open to research collaborations and engineering roles where the work is hard and real.
